The pet care industry in India is growing rapidly. Market intelligence platform Tracxn reports that India’s pet care startup sector secured $121.3 million in funding during 2019-24. Funding peaked in 2021 at $56.7 million across 13 rounds. In 2024, it stood at $17.4 million. The sector is projected to clock annual revenue of around $1.2 billion.
The country has witnessed rising awareness about animal health and wellness. As demand for pet grooming, nutrition, and healthcare surges, the sector is a fertile ground for entrepreneurship. Aspiring business owners can tap into this market to establish small startups or premium wellness brands.

Governments recognise and plan to support the sector’s growth. In 2023, Karnataka’s Large and Medium Industries Minister, M.B. Patil, said that the State government was committed to supporting initiatives that promote research, education, and dissemination of best practices in the pet industry. He observed that the pet industry is likely to be worth around ₹20,000 crore in India by 2025.

Dr. Komal Keni, Founder, Pet Ozone Clinic
Dr Komal Keni is the Founder of Pet Ozone Clinic and is India’s First Integrative and Holistic Veterinary Surgeon and Physician. She graduated from Bombay Veterinary College in 2006 and has been a Small Animal Practitioner for the last 18 years.
She specialised in Ozone Therapy from the American Academy of Ozone Therapy (AAOT) in 2014 under the guidance of Dr. Frank Shallenberger, and she interned with Dr. Roman Margo in Boston. She joined the Ozone Forum of India (OFI) in 2017.
Praveen Danial, Founder, Groomax
Praveen Danial, a certified pet groomer, is the founder of Groomax, a premium pet grooming and wellness brand based in Chennai. He trained and certified himself as a professional pet groomer. He learnt everything from breed-specific styling and coat care to dealing with anxious or special-needs pets.
The studio offers a wide range of services — from full-body grooming and de-shedding to medicated baths, nail trimming, training, boarding, and walking. Mr. Danial regularly mentors young professionals in both grooming and pet business management.
Altaf Ahmed, Assistant Director, MSME DFO Chennai, GoI
Altaf Ahmed serves as Assistant Director at the Ministry of MSME, posted at the MSME DFO Chennai, Government of India. He holds a Ph.D. in Economics from the Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University (2020). His academic and professional expertise lies in economic analysis, risk management, and MSME development.
He has previously worked as Senior Manager (Economist) at J&K Bank and as a Young Professional in the Ministry of Commerce. Mr. Altaf has qualified UGC-NET, JKSET, and JAIIB, and has published and presented widely on MSME.
